Land contamination may arise from past
land use or from point or diffuse sources.
Where land has been affected by contamination
it may present a risk to a range of receptors
including humans, ecosystems, water quality
and property such as crops and animals.
Current and future use of the land may be
adversely affected.
ELS' land services may be summarised as
follows:
- Site reconnaissance
- Desk-top Study
- Conceptual Site Model (CSM) Development
- Sub-surface Site Investigation Design
- Borehole Drilling and Installation
- Soil Log Profiles
- Soil and Water Sampling
- Soil Gas Monitoring
- Environmental Risk Assessment
- Qualitative (human & environmental)
- Quantitative (human & environmental)
- Residential & Commercial Oil Spill
Management
- Remediation Options Assessment
- Remediation Selection & Planning
- Remediation Specification & Tender
- Remediation Monitoring & Validation
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Our services can identify, qualify and
quantify potential risks associated with
land contamination. Moreover we can help
to reduce uncertainty regarding risk in
order to assist with the development or
redevelopment of land thereby avoiding dereliction
and pressure to develop Greenfield land.
Our land services include investigation
of site soil, groundwater and soil gas conditions
from which key source-pathway-receptor relationships
may be identified (Conceptual Site Model
(CSM) development). Site investigation techniques
commonly used by ELS include intrusive trial
pits, boreholes and window sampling as well
as non-intrusive surface geophyscis. Our
careful planning will ensure resources are
used for maximum information and reliable
data.
From the information gathered during the
investigation stage, we can then assess
the risk posed to humans and the environment
from contaminants in soil, water and soil
gas. This is undertaken through qualitative
or quantitative risk assessments.
ELS can evaluate viable options for site
remediation and offer assistance with contract
procurement as well as site supervision,
monitoring and validation of the agreed
remediation target values.
Our work is undertaken in accordance with
relevant best practice and international
standards.
